Wedding Candy Bars

I don’t just post random things. I mean, I usually feature my favourite shoot of the month. But…I like CANDY. And COLOUR. And I wanted to post about a trend I’ve noticed at recent shoots – wedding candy bars! How does it work? Well, a table – let’s call it a bar. Lots of bowls, vases, cylinders, tubes – filled with…yep, you guessed it – all the candy you can think of! Gum Balls. Jelly Beans. Dots. Pop Rocks. Laffy Taffy. Bubblegum. Fuzzy Peaches. Jawbreakers. M&Ms. Smarties. Hot Lips. Jujubes. Nerds. Lollies. Popeye Sticks. Turkish Delight. Yorkies. Gummies. It’s like Sugar Mountain! And I love doing these detail shots before the wedding guests arrive. You get the picture, right? Well, here’s my fave.

Thank You (5×7 Custom Boutique Cards)

A few weeks ago, I delivered Andrew and Erin’s custom boutique thank you cards. I had fun putting the whole thing together, from the time I started designing the card itself, to the time I put the stack of cards into a box package. I was proud to deliver and I’m glad they LOVE them!

Memento (3×3 Mini Album)

I had a great time shooting Chad and Joy and I wanted to give them something that would serve as a memento of their (surprise) love shoot. So when I came across this mini accordion book idea, I knew this was it. At 3×3, good things do come in small packages!

Hugs and Kisses (Custom Flush Mount Albums)

…Are two words that might come to mind when you see my custom flush mount albums. Other words also be touch, feel, smell perhaps? LOL. Okay, maybe that was just me!

I promised in a previous post that you’d get a chance to see these so here goes…After searching high and low, far and wide, I’ve picked two album companies to carry. Both for their quality products and reputation of their no gutter, seamless and lay flat custom flush mount albums.

Let’s call the first one HUGS – Heirloom, Uber Gorgeous and Special. Handmade in NYC, these albums are available in various sizes and comes in many designer Silk, Leather, Suede cover options. The studio sample below is a 10×10 covered in a luxurious Silk Shantung and comes in a beautiful black stitched box. One of my clients called it “a proper wedding album”. I mean, you just have to see it! Did I mention no gutter, seamless and lay flat?

And let’s call this one KISSES – Keeping It Super Simple, Elegant and Special. Available in various sizes and comes in Leather and Linen cover options. The studio samples below are an 8×8 and a 4×4, both covered in Red Linen and comes in a handmade designer fabric case. The 4x4s are sooooo cute – they are a mini-version of your wedding album and make great gifts for your parents or your bridal party! Did I mention no gutter, seamless and lay flat?

I’ve been bad, yes. I know. No posts since August – I’m really sorry! And thanks to those of you who reminded me. :0)

To those who are curious, I killed my wrists and back in September – umpteen hours of canoeing, sawing firewood and then taking a motorcycle course. A weird list, yes. But I guess it was a bit much in less than a week. I had a hard time driving, even using a mouse. So I had to say no to doing shoots for a while. Which made me kind of sad. However, that gave me the time and energy to find awesome products that I’m hoping my clients will just love as much as I do. In fact, a couple that booked with me just this week told me that my custom flush mount album was the best they’d seen! And you’ll get a chance to see it too – in a future post, I promise.

For now, thought I’d quickly share this while I wait for a client to come in for a shoot….

Last night, I received a “Welcome Back” package from Chatelaine magazine. Nothing against the magazine but I thought it was odd since I’ve only ever subscribed to Dwell and Rangefinder magazines. What can I say? I like architecture/design and photography. But anyway, as I flipped through the pages, looking at the images more than the text, a life lessons article quote popped out for me: “Go for the lovely, the funny, the welcoming, the willing and the connected. Go toward the warm. Recognize what feels good, rather than what feels normal.”

Although the life lessons article and the quote had a different context, those three sentences really capture my approach to photography and life in general. It made me think. It made me smile. And I wanted to pass that on. Happy 2011 everyone!
